The Shadow Self - The Backside of the Law of Attraction

Many folks believe we are here to "live out" our Karma--a debt from a past life. Many believe we are here to become more spiritual, more righteous; still others believe that there may be no reason why we are here - that we are nothing more than universal amoebas living, reproducing and dying with no purpose to our lives other than that.

I feel we are here to enjoy this earthly plane, to enjoy creating and our creations and to become more of who we are.

Who are we? You might ask. Divine Children of the Most High. Children of the Universe. The Sons and Daughters of God. Children of the Stars. Pick your term - they all apply.

Only most of us have forgotten this. We're trapped in our seemingly endless cycles, running in ruts, digging ourselves deeper in. If we enjoy that, then all is fine and good. But if we don't, this place, this earthly paradise can seem like hell. And a rut is nothing more than a grave with no ends.

We get up in the morning, we go to work, we come home, we watch the news or cook the dinner, we talk a bit with the family or our friends and then we go to bed and start it all over again. Boring!

But what if each day could be an adventure--an adventure into the unknown--an unfolding of what the Universe has to offer?

What if when we got out of bed--we jumped, excited by the what the day might show us. Unfortunately for us, we've thought ourselves into limitation, into believing that what we have is all that we are entitled to.

Not so! Change the way you think and what you think about! This is the starting point to having a different life. And as you try this new life on; as you try out these new thoughts that go against all of your beliefs--you will meet something dark in this struggle. You will meet your shadow self--that part of you that is invested in keeping the status quo.

This is called the Ego.

The Ego has set itself up as Master and Lord of All, and likes to remind you of this by fighting against any kind of change in your life.

As an example - the other day I was standing at the refrigerator grabbing a beer for myself. It was Saturday evening and my husband and I were spending time together having a beer at our wet-bar in our great room.

I was thinking of the moment with joy - enjoying the moment together in our hectic lives. As I opened the refrigerator it was if there was a "person in the shadows" of my being (behind me) accusing me of being a slacker, telling me I was "not being spiritual" because I was having a beer.

I've noticed that as I avail myself more and more to the universe and its flow, the shadow self is rebelling. It's actually "coming out of the shadows" and letting itself be known - a thing heretofore unheard of for me. I think the Holosync meditation tapes I'm listening to every day have a lot to do with
that.

In any case, the Ego is losing its bid for control of my life - and it's not liking it. So used to being in charge and structuring everything around guilt and shame and social consciousness of right and wrong - the Ego cannot stand to sit back and let spirit flow.

It likes everything it nice neat little packages that turn into ruts. And we know what they are.

If you saw Lord of the Rings you saw what happened to Frodo at the end. His Ego won out and if it weren't for Gollum, well. . .

The point being - there is a lot more to using the Law of Attraction than just asking, believing and receiving. You have years and years and years of social conditioning, belief structures, traumas, events, circumstances and issues that have all come under the reign of the Ego.

And the Ego has used these things to give you an identity - tell you who you are. It is invested in keeping control of the scenario. It is invested in making sure it stays in charge. And it tells you that you are this limited being.

Only that is NOT who you are. You are a Child of the Most High, a Child of the Divine, a Child of the Stars.

It's time that you embraced yourself.

Come stand in the light.

It is here that shadows disappear.
