Strengthen Your Brain

By: Steven A Johnson

The brain is the most complex biological structure that we know of. The human brain is over five times as large as the average brain of a mammal with a similar body size. Especially expanded in humans are the frontal lobes or the forebrain, they are involved in functions such as self control, planning and reasoning. The brain has roughly fifty to one-hundred billion neurons, which are cells that pass signals back and forth to one another. For one to have a healthy body, it is said that they must first possess a healthy mind!

During our life span, our cells regenerate, or replicate themselves. Brain cells do not regenerate and repair the way other cells do. Critical stages in the development of the central nervous system and the brain occur in the earliest stages of life and during childhood. During aging the body's ability to absorb nutrients decreases. The resiliency to bounce back from illness, injury, stress, or disease becomes less. As the aging process begins to accelerate we begin to lose brain neurons beginning in early adulthood. In addition, the brain faces increasing pressure to perform as well than it did when we were younger.

Here are some do's and don'ts to maintain a healthy brain:

Do:

Get regular exercise and involve yourself in physical activity

Exercise your mind! Always try new experiences and engage yourself in active learning

Socialize as often as possible with your friends, family and social groups

Keep a positive self image and attitude- have a sense of control in your life

Manage daily and long term stress effectively

Try and maintain a balanced diet, eat foods that are rich in antioxidants and omega 3 acids, and take multivitamin supplements daily

Lower high cholesterol, lose weight, and keep blood pressure and blood sugar levels under control

Make sure you are getting a full night sleep- six to eight hours!

Seek treatment for any underlying health problems

Don't:

Consume alcoholic beverages to excess, smoke cigarettes or use illegal drugs

Neglect telling your doctor about important changes in your mental status (it is normal to forget names or where you put the keys!)

Avoid going to the doctor when changes in mental or physical health occur

Overlook the possibility of negative drug interactions affecting your mental state, in the event of taking more than one prescription medication

Cut yourself off from social contact by isolating yourself in your home

Stop yourself from trying new things!

Did you know a positive outlook and attitude is one of the most important aspects of maintaining a healthy brain? No matter what challenges we face on a daily basis, we can teach ourselves to start each day with the philosophy “the glass is half full” rather than "the glass is half empty". This is important to keep our brains in a healthy state and ready for learning!

Feed My Brain is an all natural dietary supplement that contains over fifty ingredients to promote healthy brain function. These include fourteen learning nutrients and natural compounds found in fruits and vegetables that are considered building blocks for the brain.
