Should I Include A Cover Letter Or Not?

Most people find writing a cover letter difficult. That leads lots of people to cheat themselves and assume they are not required. A big mistake. Your cover letter is not just a compliments slip, it is an integral part of the process. It shows the job you are applying for, showcases you, your professionalism and your enthusiasm, all in a few short paragraphs.

Remember that the person interviewing for the job will probably have to look through a whole stack of resumes for just one opening. Don't make them wonder what job or position you are applying for, tell them up front! Be specific about the position; this will tell them that you know what you're after. For employers who want energetic go-getters on their team, this bio can be what convinces them to hire you.

Employers are eager to know why you, out of all the many applicants, are a good fit for their company. To give them that information, you'll need to focus on your accomplishments and skills. If you are a great team player, tell them about how you've been a crucial member of a team effort in the past. If you want a position as an excellent, inspiring leader, prove that you can do it by giving examples from leadership skills you've shown already. The most important goal of your resume is to make yourself look like just the person they've been hoping to find. You can do that by putting a little thought into how you present your skills.

If you are really keen to get the job then the cover letter can be the way to signal that, afterall, anyone can stick 20 CVs in the post to companies, but writing a personal cover letter shows dedication. Anyone can send in a great-looking resume; by sending in an effective cover letter as well, you will instantly set yourself apart from the crowd. Most employers want to get a cover letter in order to learn more about you than a resume alone can tell them. Including one is a sign of courtesy and indicates that you are taking the application process seriously.

A cover letter also provides you with a way to get an interview. A resume can't do this for you; its purpose is to just list your background information for them to refer to and make sure you have the qualifications they need. A cover letter, however, is the right way to ask for a time when you can meet with the employer or recruiter for an interview. Even if the job opportunity is one where you work from home or remotely then you can grab a phone interview. Whatever else you include in your cover letter, be sure to ask for an interview so that the employer realizes that you really want the job.

They are also a great way to prove to a prospective employer how professional you are before you even have to break out your best suit and practice that perfect handshake. There is a correct format for a cover letter; be sure to make use of it! Employers know what a cover letter is supposed to look like. Make the most of your opportunity and impress them with your professionalism!
