Medical Facts: Buttock Augmentation

By: Lisa Ortega

Cosmetic surgery has developed new ways to keep the body appearing fit and toned. In recent years, new ways to enhance the shape of the body, creating a curvier look, has become possible. For many, the desire to alter their appearance had seemed like a non-reality aside from changes in diet and exercise. With cosmetic surgery, professional surgeons can assist with those desired body changes.

Buttock augmentation has become a growing trend in the medical cosmetic world. For many, the choice to alter their physical appearance is related to confidence, self image, emotional wellness, and one’s overall satisfaction with their appearance. It is of course important before undergoing a surgery of this kind to always be informed of the benefits as well as the risks. Finding a cosmetic surgeon you can trust and who has a solid experienced background is of course a great idea. Being comfortable with your surgeon allows you to be open about what you desire and to be open about your motives and objectives. This will help the surgeon to serve you more fully toward a satisfactory surgery.

There are generally two ways to perform a buttock augmentation. Silicone implants may be used or a fat grafting procedure may be performed. Silicone implants are generally more painful and recovery time is usually harder on the body. Fat grafting requires taking fat from other areas of the body, like stomach or hips, and putting it into the buttocks area. This treatment has generally very natural looking results but the body may absorb some of the grafted fat and the procedure may need to be redone after the area has healed. This repeat surgery can be one of the more challenging aspects of the fat grafting buttock augmentation procedure.

To fully understand your reasons for cosmetic surgery, it is a good idea to stay focused on what you are hoping to attain after the surgery is performed. What will the surgery do for you, mentally, emotionally, physically? When you are more fully informed of the reasons for your surgery, you can remain more realistic in your expectations. Surgeons can help to restructure your body but completely revamping what is already there is difficult. It is important to have realistic expectations through and through.

One of the more prominent disadvantages to buttock augmentation is the pain and healing that must take place after the surgery is performed. Since the surgery is being performed on one of the more often used areas of the body, sleeping and sitting, even laying down and be difficult. The area must be allowed to heal without pressure as this would not only potentially interfere with proper healing but also interfere with the final effects of the surgery. It is important to go over the healing procedure with your cosmetic surgeon and discuss what you should and should not do after surgery. Furthermore, by researching the procedure and your options, you have the ability to be informed prior to seeing a surgeon. This can be a great advantage prior to undergoing a buttock augmentation.
