Dewalt DW712 Review

By: Johan Nickson

Recently we got to have a good look at the new DeWalt DW712 Compound Mitre Saw. According to DeWalt, the new DW712 corded compound slide mitre saw is the most accurate saw the company has ever produced. The DW712 has a 1600W motor delivering an output of 930W and providing superior power in high torque applications. Its electronic speed regulator controls power delivery with high torque for low speed applications.

This DeWalt is very easy to transport around and set up, it's lightweight but seems very durable. It easily fits in the back of a van once it has been folded, meaning you can easily take it from job to job.

The DW712 is also the first 216mm portable mitre saw to be able to cut a 60 mitre improving cutting angle performance on stairs and roof joints. The DW712 cuts mitre angles up to 50°s left and 60°s right. Every DW712 is tested comprehensively before it leaves DeWalt’s Perugia factory, with the test results recorded against its serial number.

The aluminum base construction provides stability to the saw while retaining its portability 60 right mitre angle provides enough capacity for the most difficult applications. Mitre and bevel angle detentes allow for quick and easy set up of the saw. The Mitre saw station also features quick release spring-loaded retractable legs, to create a secure working platform on the work site.

There are lighter saws on the market but they are not sliding. The machine is very quiet compared to the average mitre saws I have used in the past.

Some of the features of the DW712 includes. New mitre angle adjustment system provides accurate and consistent setting of mitre angles between 0 and 60° right and 0 and 50° left. The innovative grooving stop allows adjustment of the cutting depth for grooving and rebating applications. The large dual sliding fence mechanism gives maximum support in large material cuts at any angle or combination of angles.

Horizontal rails create additional capacity for larger materials. The aluminium base construction provides stability to the saw while retaining its portability. 60° right mitre angle provides enough capacity for the most difficult applications. Mitre and bevel angle detents allow for quick and easy set up of the saw. Spindle lock for easy blade replacement.

In summary if your in the market for a mitre saw I don’t think you couple go far wrong with the DeWalt DW712. While there is some very stiff competition around, i think DeWalt’s prestige shines through on this power tool. If you are shopping around however, it defiantly worth taking a look at Bosch GCM10. The Bosch mitre saw is a little more expensive but is more powerful. In truth I think it really is a though call between these two excellent saws. There isn’t really much between them, The Dewalt is flexable and cheaper, the bosch is more powerful, yet more expensive. I think if you can afford the extra money for the GCM10, go for the Bosch, you will not regret it.
