Baby Shower Gift Selection

By: James Brown

When thinking of a gift for a baby shower, one sometimes feels confused on what to get thinking that the baby's parents have probably purchased all that the little tot would want and need. So what else can you get for a baby who already has everything there is to have? To remind you, there is a saying, "One can never be too poor that he cannot give nor can he be too rich that he cannot receive." Even a well equipped and finely pampered baby can still accept your gift. You just have to be a little creative and practical. Here are a few suggestions for presents on your baby shower with which you can never go wrong with.

Just like what a budding teenage girl would say, "You can never have too many clothes." And this stays true for babies as well. Gifts of clothing are always a welcome addition to a baby's closet especially since these little ones can go for more than 5 outfit changes in a day particularly when they are not wearing very absorbent diapers. Shirts, shorts, pants, chinos and wash clothes take on a hefty amount of the daily laundry of households with babies. Any parent would very much appreciate your contribution to the growing clothing collection of their toddler. In purchasing clothes, you may want to buy them in bigger sizes. As babies grow up, new clothes are needed. Mom would be pleased to have an outfit ready for her baby as she grows a month old or so from the shower. Sizes that fit just right may only be used once or twice as babies grow faster these days. If you are unsure of the gender of the baby then go ahead and choose clothes with neutral colors. You can never go wrong with white and babies almost always look good in it.

Gift certificates also make good presents. If you are unsure on what to buy, then you can leave that option with the baby's mommy and daddy as the parents are the best persons to know what the baby would need. With a gift certificate, you are giving them the gift of convenience and choice. At least with it, you can be certain that your gift would not be placed in one corner because they already have one just like it. Another suggestion is keepsakes or personalized presents. Go for baby albums or cute picture frames that can showcase the happy moments with the baby. Customized presents have created quite a fad these days. Try going for cups, rattles and bottles where the baby's name can be engraved or blankets and towels in which the baby's name can be sewn in. Sentimental value often means more than the present itself.

Books are timeless presents so you may want to consider giving one. It may seem impractical at first since it is obvious that a baby cannot read at that stage but know that a baby's mind continually absorbs the things that he hears about. That is one of the reasons why women are advised to listen to classical music or read to their tummies while pregnant because the baby's brain is developing and unconsciously grasping the information he perceives through his senses. Classical fairytale books are a favorite. Mommy and daddy can take turns reading until the baby can be old enough to read on his own.
