If you're like me, it drives you crazy when you see an infomercial for some silly piece of "new" breakthrough equipment.
I mean, you're obviously intelligent enough to know that squeezing your abs for a few minutes a day on some infomercial ab belt isn't going to get great abs fast for anyone.
Sadly, I have to admit I've fallen for this sham before. Maybe you have too? It's nothing to be ashamed of as long as you learn from the experience.
In addition to those deceptive infomercials, there's many people who believe the best way to get great abs fast is to perform an endless amount of crunches.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
Despite the "burn" of high rep ab exercises, you barely burn any calories while doing them. Not only that but you barely work the ab muscle enough to develop it.
Therefore endless crunches fail on both accounts. (1) They don't burn enough calories, and (2) They are very poor methods of building muscle.
I wholeheartedly believe proper ab exercise doesn't have to involve endless crunches or sit ups. Instead, you should focus on more of a "complete" fitness routine that encompasses proper diet training, weight training and cardiovascular training.
Here's few tips to keep in mind when planning your six pack "approach."
-When it comes to cardiovascular exercise, engage in High Intensity Workouts such as sprints, jump rope, etc.
-When it comes to dieting, eliminate as many processed foods as you possibly can. This includes refined sugars and carbohydrates.
-When it comes to weight training, keep your focus on large muscle groups such as legs, chest, and back.
Does that mean you shouldn't do ANY ab exercises?
While ab exercises should be done, they should never be the focus of your program. And they definitely never should be the only exercise you do.
