Varieties of Goldfish
Common Goldfish: As the name suggests, these are the most typical type of goldfish and differ in color with their cousins, the Carp. They come in a range of colors including Red, Orange, White, Yellow and Black.
Black Moor: This kind of Goldfish has a Popeye i.e. the eye protrudes a little. It is known as the dragon eye Goldfish in China.
Bubble Eye: Ok, this really is another kind of fish that grosses me out. These guys have saggy sack like structures hanging from their faces which might be filled up with some type of fluid..
Celestial Eye: This kind of Goldfish appears like it is wearing spectacles. Its pupils point upward and it also has a split tail.
Comet: The Comet Goldfish looks a great deal like the common goldfish excepting that it is smaller and features a split swishy tail.
Fantail: This type of Goldfish appears like a Dorito chip. it is triangular and has a large dorsal fin. Very interesting looking critter.
Lionhead: A enormously attractive looking fish. This kind of Goldfish has a hood on its head and appears very elegant.
Oranda: Like the Lionhead, the Oranda also has a big hood that encircles its entire face. Not as pretty as the Lionhead in my opinion.
Telescope Eyed: Yet another Googly eyed species of Goldfish. This one is usually dark in color and does not look much like other Goldfish making it a very weird variety.
Panda Moor: This is one of the weirdest looking Goldfish you will ever see. It has a large split fantail and protruding eyes with a white and black color pattern.
Veiltail: This is a gorgeous fish that has a long swishy tail.
Goldfish can be kept anywhere. Because they are such hardy fish, they can be kept in a gold fish bowl or even a pond. They are very communal fish and will make friends with their feeders. They've memory spans of a few months and will identify speech patterns and sight of humans they know.
In the wild, Goldfish go after small shrimp and crustaceans but in the home atmosphere they might be given fish food. Overfeeding has always been a problem with Goldfish particularly with children as young people tend to overfeed their fish.
Remember to keep a close watch on the vigor of your fish. Be careful for signs of overfeeding or lethargic behavior and try to find problems before they get bad. Keep the fish tank away from direct sunlight as variations in temperature may adversely affect the healh of your fish. Goldfish make wonderful pets.
