Not just a catchy slogan....Its how the world did business for centuries.
Long before money was the route of all evil and the main method or getting things that you needed, people around the globe simply bartered and traded for things, using their skills, gold, silver, precious stones, livestock and even people as a form of currency to get what they wanted.
In US history the pilgrims traded with the Indians for food. (lets not mention the rest of that story). The Romans had it down to a fine art, they traded there advanced skills and technological knowledge for things they wanted from many countries around the world, such as silver from Britain, silks from China, cotton from Egypt and even exotic wild animals from Africa.
So the concept is nothing new, but it has been all but been forgotten over the centuries as money has became the be all and end all of world commerce. But times are changing and the world is in an economic slump, we all feel it, now simply buying what you want is not that simple for many people.
Two things are true, even in times like this..
1. Everyone have some kind of skill.
2. Everyone has items / junk they dont want anymore.
Ever heard the expression One mans trash is another mans treasure?
As SwapDen.com is in theory helping people recycle items they no longer want or need and may normally throw away (cluttering up the landfills), we have decided to take this recycling thang a step futher and will be teaming up with three major green / recycling charity organizations.
1. tradefortravel.com
A whole new concept in charity giving, based around bartering (what else). Basically people can sign up for a free account online and then can donate unwanted items (old laptops, books etc), even skills to help schools in the Dominican Republic.
For each donation the person is given a certain amount of points (500 for a laptop, 50 for a set of books, etc). These points can be collected and built up over time and eventually the person can exchange their points for a luxury vacation in the Dominican Republic.
This is made possible thanks to a collection of hotel and villa owners on the island that have agreed to let people trade their points for a percentage off the total cost or if they have accrued enough points they can get 100% off their vacation at one of these luxury villa or hotels
2. recyclingforcharities.com
An eco friendly organization where people can donate their used electronics, cell phones etc to any one of a number of charities within the organization. These devices are kept out of the landfills and recycled and reused.
For all items donated recyclingforcharities.com donates money to the charity you choose and all donations are tax deductable.
3. Green hosting
The SwapDen.com website is hosted on 100% emission free wind powered servers.
Just how big a dent in climate change does that make? It's the equivalent of:
1. Removing 444 cars from the road for a year, or
2. Powering 321 homes with clean energy
for a year, or
3. Saving 5,654 barrels of oil, or
4. Protecting 551 acres of forest for a year
