People have called Emmitt Smith a football player, father, friend, teammate, dancer, announcer and all around great guy. Emmitt Smith was born in Pensacola, FL on May 15, 1969. Ever since he was a boy, Smith dreamed of playing for the Dallas Cowboys. This guy went through a lot of adversity before he would realize his dream to be a pro football player. Growing up, his family struggled financially. He worked many different jobs to earn extra money and helped out with his ailing grandmother.
In high school he was an incredible player and athlete. Smith played football at Florida. It didn't take Emmitt long to earn the reputation of a great football player. In his first game he had over 100 yards rushing. While a player for the Florida Gators he even broke his own rushing records. He tied the school record of 14 for rushing touchdowns. He still holds many of those same records to this very day.
In 1990, Smith left University of Florida in his junior year to play for his dream team, the Dallas Cowboys. While playing at Dallas, Emmitt became the main man in the offense early in his career. Smith helped the team to three Super Bowl Championship victories in 1993, 1994, and 1996. In Super Bowl XXVIII, he actually received special recognition for his play. He was named the MVP of the Super Bowl. Emmitt also participated in many Pro Bowl games.
Emmitt starred at the University of Florida where he set 58 school records in his three years along with earning All-American honors and including being named the 1989 SEC Player of the Year.
Smith received the Super Bowl MVP award for Super Bowl XXVIII, becoming the only Cowboys running back ever to win the award out of all their Super Bowl wins. Emmitt was named both league MVP in 1993 and Super Bowl XXVIII MVP that same season.
Emmitt returned to the national stage as a contestant on the hit TV show Dancing With The Stars in 2006. He won the competition, beating out actor Mario Lopez in the final round.
