AwareBear Computers in Rochester NY will be talking about keeping your data safe in an event of data loss. When it comes to data recovery in Rochester NY Aware Bear is #1.
Computer disaster planning is something that has to be considered at some point for everyone including people and businesses. “The majority of people today depend on computers” says Aware Bear Computers owner Andre Leite Alves in Rochester NY.
Power surges, hard drive failures (mechanical, software and virus) are common risks we all face when storing our data. Many people have no backups of anything, pictures, music, documents and emails. “We see that happen in a daily basis and how expensive it is to get your data back once data recovery is needed.” Says Arthur Leite Alves from AwareBear in Rochester NY.
The other side of the story is when the backup is done on CDs or DVDs and the disks do not get labeled correctly. That can get very messy, having a pile of disks and not knowing what is inside. As technology evolves the backup media gets more and more stable. In the 90s Zip drives were great however they were magnetic and got damaged very easily.Tags:Aware Bear Computers, AwareBear. When the first CDs hit the market they were expensive and took a while to write them. Finally DVDs that could hold up to 4.7 gigs were out and that was the ultimate backup solution. Today we rely on the 4,7 gig and 8.5 gig DVDs, the 8.5 still a bit expensive and records a bit slow however once it gets done recording it works like any other disk.
“We keep a few Iomega Zip drives (100 and 250), tape drives, floppy drives around the office. People do not realize that the media they used a few years back is not available and they no longer have the devices to read.” Says Aware Bear owner Andre Leite Alves. It is a good idea to keep checking in the new technologies so we don’t end up with obsolete media that no new computer can read. Arthur Leite Alves also points out that the optical media has a shelf life like anything else. A few years back we moved all the Aware Bear Computers data from zip drives into CDs. Five years later we moved the data from the CDs into DVDs. That opened a lot of space, owner Andre Alves has plans to move the data into 8.5 gig DVDs and cut the DVD usage in half.

By doing that Aware Bear is sure that the data is being stored in Medias that can be easily used. It would not be of much help if someone had all their backup done in Zip disks and got a new computer today and could not get any of the old data off the disks.
