As you begin to learn to speak Spanish, you'll soon recognize a common rhythm to each word and sentence. Whether or not you can duplicate this cadence, you should at least be able to say each word with an appropriate accent. As you might expect, the only way that you'll develop these skills is to practice speaking Spanish as much as possible. Fortunately, there are a number of places where you can practice your verbal Spanish skills.

Call Center Conversations

Chances are, whenever you call a government agency or large businesses, you'll be given an option to speak to someone in Spanish. If you need to resolve an issue through one of these call centers, you may want to try requesting a Spanish speaking representative. Even if you can't resolve your issue this way and need to ask for an English speaking person, you'll still have had the chance to try out your skills in a real time situation.

Online Verbal Chatting

The internet is filled with voice chat services like Skype that can help you connect with others that speak Spanish. If you sign up for online classes, you may even be able to chat with other students who are also working with the same types of material. You can search for student chat groups online or get contact information from online Spanish study groups. Online verbal chatting is especially useful if you know one dialect of Spanish and want to gain some experience with the language as it is spoken in other regions.

Tape and Video Recordings

Because Spanish is such a popular language, there are dozens of tapes that will help you learn how to pronounce Spanish words and phrases properly. Typically, you'll have an opportunity to listen to the pronunciation of words and phrases, before repeating them back. If you use a tape recorder during each exercise, you'll be able to go back and listen to see if you were successful in duplicating each verbal pattern. If you record both the original version and your attempts together, it will make it much easier to listen for differences.

Visit Spanish Speaking Neighborhoods

Depending on where you live, you may be able to find store clerks and neighbors that speak Spanish as a primary language. If you visit with these people, they may be willing to converse with you in their native language. This can be a fun and rewarding experience, as well as one that helps you build your speaking skills. Finally, if you have the opportunity to visit a Spanish speaking country for a few months, you'll find that you learn much more quickly through the immersion method.

When you're learning to speak Spanish, you'll need to take some time to learn verbal aspects of the language in addition to reading and writing. Aside from understanding the basic grammar and vocabulary, it's also important to capture the rhythm of the language. Once you get used to it, you may even find that you enjoy the more fluid sounds of the Spanish language as compared to English.
