People will tell you that network marketing is all about self development. That the more you learn, the more you earn. The more you apply what you've learned, the faster your business grows.
I am reminded today, how those business lessons, not only make me a better business professional, but a better person, a more patient person, in ALL areas of my life.
I am thankful that I have the knowledge of what it takes to succeed ... in business. Cause I am finding myself HAVING to apply many of the same things I coach about to my own fitness routine. I am finding myself saying similar things that some of my business partners tell me ...
"It's not working."
"I am putting in the time but I don't see the results."
"How come it is easier for that woman?"
"If this doesn't start happening soon, I'll have to quit."
"Why do I have to go outside my comfort zone?"
"I'd rather just be at the end result rather than do the work to get me there."
As I was working up a sweat this morning and pumping those muscles, I had to laugh at the realization of how similar my plight in my new exercise routine is to what new business partners sometimes experience.
After struggling with not seeing the immediate fitness results I want, I thought to myself, "This is no different than building a successful business. Success doesn't come overnight, it takes consistency, a drive to never give up, a dedication to do the tasks over and over again, without looking at the immediate results at this point."
In my business, I grow the most when I get outside my comfort zone, when things are a little uncomfortable, when I am willing to take it one step further. Just as it should be with my exercise routine. Sometimes I 'show up' to do the work and no doubt that IS the most important part. But if I just casually walk through the motions, without stretching myself both physically and mentally ... learning a little more, pushing it a little farther, success won't be as assured or as fast as I'd like.
It sure is easy to embellish the actual facts too. I FEEL like I have been working at this exercise thing for so long now and can't understand why it's not working. But if I am honest with myself and look at the reality of it, things are a little different than I first want to claim. It hasn't been that long and although my effort has been good, it has not always been consistent, nor at the optimum level.
Just as some of my business partners come to me and state, "I have been doing this for a long time now and it just doesn't work. I have tried everything." When pushed to examine the facts, reality often presents a different picture than we first thought.
Four or five months of inconsistent effort is just not enough to see results, you're just getting started. It's always hardest at the beginning, when you are out of practice, limited in your knowledge, haven't hit your groove yet. It takes repeated daily action steps, repeated consistency.
So as I think to myself, "Is this exercise thing worth it, is it ever gonna pay off?" I laugh and say, "Of course it is … you just have to give it enough time. You have to be honest with your effort and be willing to wait it out, patiently, until the results start coming. And if you quit now, you'll never see the results you want."
So thank goodness I have learned from my business to be consistent, to be honest with my efforts, to do the tasks that matter most, and to push it one step further so that I can close the gap between where I am and where I want to be. Now I can successfully apply what I know to my exercise routine as well.
