As a local business, there are many advantages to be had for switching your plant or office to run wholly or partially on solar energy. Here are three practical advantages that apply to almost any local business.
1) You will save money - the reason that businesses are in business is to make a profit. And, most, businessmen absolutely detest spending money on things unless they can find a way to make a profit off of it - or at least pay for itself.
Now, unfortunately, heating and electrical bills are a cost of doing business. But what many business owners are discovering is just how much money converting their energy usage from electrical or gas to solar can save them. Sure, there can be a substantial upfront costs to conversion. But that is typically a one time cost. And ongoing maintenance expenses are usually trivial in comparison.
Installation is the costly part. But, once the solar powered systems are in place, companies can find themselves potentially easily saving thousands of dollars a year or more on their energy costs.
In most cases, an installed solar power system will simply augment the current electrical and gas based systems in place. However, some local businesses that make the switch to solar power discover that not only does solar provide all of the power that their business needs, but it also produces excess power. And, this allows them to sell the excess power to local utilities companies.
2) Now is the perfect time - timing is everything. Especially when it comes to making investments in your business. And, contingent on where your business is located, now might very well be the perfect time to invest in solar power. Why now? Because there are tons of financial incentives available to you at every level of government - local, state, and federal.
These incentives come in the form of grants, tax breaks, vouchers, and others. And, the aim of these incentives is simply to make it financially more attractive for your business to make the transition to more green sources of energy. As a result, in some cases, your company could actually break even or make money on the conversion costs.
3) Good will - in a typical community, good will counts for a great deal. Investing in 'green' projects such as solar energy shows the community that your business cares about the environment and your company's impact on it. Your company will most likely get positive and free coverage from the local newspapers and TV stations. And, from a business standpoint, this increased local good will and publicity will often directly and indirectly translate to increased sales.
Not all businesses, of course, will find it economically feasible to switch to solar power or other forms of green energy. But, those who can, will often find the switch to be beneficial in even more ways than those listed above.
