Keeping your car routinely serviced and maintained is an important aspect of its life. Making sure a car is running smoothly ensures that you get the most use out of it and that it does not wear out before its time. However, many people do not have the ability to leave their car at the shop for days at a time while waiting for work to be done on the car. Here are some services that can be accomplished in an afternoon and will help keep your car in peak condition.

Oil Change – Getting a car's oil change is the most frequent and one of the most necessary services a car needs. Routinely getting your oil changed helps make sure the engine cools properly and can prevent you from having to spend thousands of dollars (and lots of days carless) on a new engine. Thankfully it is also one of the least time consuming services. Especially if you have an appointment with your mechanic! Usually getting your oil changed can be completed in about 45 minutes, which means you could get this service completed during a lunch break at work. Remember most car manufacturers recommend getting your oil changed every 3 months or every 3000 miles.

Tire Rotation – Tire Rotation is a very important service for the safety of your car. Tires should be rotated every 5,000 to 10,000 miles. Otherwise you could be risking uneven wear on your tires, which leads to safety hazards of a bald or a blown tire. Rotating your tires will keep your tires functioning for a longer time, and having a mechanic check the treads regularly during rotations will help you know when to replace your tires before they become a hazard. This service takes hardly any time and can be completed during your oil change. Once again, this can be completed during a lunch break!

Air Filter – This is quite possibly the easiest service to be completed in a car. It takes about 10 minutes to be completed. Replacing the air filter in your car only takes a few minutes and helps increase the engine performance in your car, and gas mileage (if you have an old car). Not only does this service help maintain engine performance, but it helps keep the air you're breathing fresh.

These services can all be completed during a lunch break and are important services for your car. There are additional services that can be completed in an afternoon. Although car maintenance may seem time consuming, spending one lunch break at a service station will prevent you from being carless for many days if a more serious problem arrives.
