The holidays have earned the reputation of busy streets, crowded markets, last minute shopping, and impatient shoppers. You probably have the plan to have a party at home this Christmas like you used to. Won't you have it different this time? There are many places to go to and things to do this Christmas to make it different.

1. Walk and shop around

Shopping venues and markets are all busy and if you like places that teem with activity, these places are your great option for a walk. You can drive around the city and look for eventful spots. Your favorite spots would look more brilliant with all those lantern and holiday ornaments that you will not see during other times of the year. However, this idea isn't going to work much for you if you hate crowded places.

2. Skating Rink

There are different parks in winter than turn into popular ice skating resorts. This may not be possible for people living tropical and subtropical spots but those in places that enjoy the winter freeze can check out ice skating resorts. You don't have ice all year round, so why not enjoy the only time of the year when you can enjoy both the holidays and the ice. Enjoy some hot chocolate drink while you watch others move on smooth ice.

3. Caroling

Christmas caroling is one of the most enjoyable activities during the wintry holidays. Bring friends with you and make sure they can sing. But if this is not possible, just go out and look for carolers in the city. You might find a group in the middle of your Christmas Eve stroll. Don't forget to give money to them. Singing along isn't bad either, so long as you sing in tune. Many people listen to Christmas carols to feel the spirit of the holidays. Christmas tunes give you a warm feel during the cold holidays.

4. Dance

Lots of disco gatherings and night parties are happening to celebrate Christmas. You might want to be there instead of being at home and celebrating with the family. Or you can check out disco events and parties sometime during the holidays. That should add thrill to your Christmas. If you don't like to go out, you can host a disco party at home and invite friends and neighbors just to make it different this time.

5. Have a vacation

It is wonderful to spend Christmas away from home to make it more special for the family. Plan a vacation for your family or with your friends. The catch is that most tourist destinations would charge higher during the holidays. Nonetheless, vacationers don't mind spending the holidays somewhere warm and pleasant. Parties happen in different parts of the world and many resorts also host parties in December.

6. Send Christmas cards

When you're being thrifty, you can send souvenirs or greeting cards but choose your recipients wisely. Only send cards to people important to you, say your close friends and family members. Sending greeting cards can be cumbersome, especially when you're sending them to so many people.

7. Go to church

Only few people nowadays understand the spiritual significance of Christmas. We celebrate it because we commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ. We should all go back to the roots of Christmas and explain to our kids why we are celebrating it. Churches are wide open on Christmas Eve to hold traditional Christian ceremony. You can go back home and celebrate with your family after attending the mass.

You may not want to miss out on some festivities here and there but don't forget the essence of Christmas. It's about gratitude, forgiveness, and generosity. You cannot celebrate Christmas if you're still mad at your parents or if you haven't fixed a dispute with a colleague.
